Abstract
UnderirradiatingwithaCWUVlaserlight(l¼325nm)atroomtemperatureinvacuumandoxygengasatmosphere,the lm,microcrystalsandpowdercompactsofEu2O3exhibitareversiblephotoluminescence(PL)spectralchangebetweenaredsharp-linestructureandawhitebroadone.AfterstoppingtheUVirradiation,theabilityofthewhitePLlastsformorethanseveralmonthsatroomtemperatureunderroomlight,inspiteofchangesofatmosphere.Thereversiblephenomenatobeobservedareinterpretedastheresultsofboththevalence-numberchangeofeuropiumions(Eu3+-Eu2+)andtheoxygenvacancyformation.r2001ElsevierScienceB.V.Allrightsreserved.
