I started Early -- Took my Dog -- I took my dog and started early

And visited the Sea -- to visited the sea

The Mermaids in the Basement The mermaids came out from the bottom Came out to look at me -- and look at me

And Frigates -- in the Upper Floor Frigates reached out Hempen hands Extended Hempen Hands -- from the surface

Presuming Me to be a Mouse -- Regarding me as a trapped mouse Aground -- upon the Sands -- lying on the beach

But no Man moved Me till the Tide But no one touchd me untill the tide Went past my simple Shoe -- was over my dull shoe

And past my Apron -- and my Belt -- and over my apron, belt

And past my Bodice -- too -- or even my bodice

No One He seemed to know -- that no one knows him
