I, on behalf of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, would like to welcome all of you here.

40多年来，我们一直致力于 弘扬中华传统文化，坚持 双语教育，并 推行独特的书院制度，在香港高等教育界 卓然而立。

For more than 40 years, we have been committed to popularizing traditional Chinese culture, adhere to bilingual education and exercised the unique college system. As a result, we have been distinguished from other local universities in the higher educational community of Hong Kong.

中大的校训“博文约礼”出自《论语》，讲求 智育与德育并重。我们既强调 知识的创造与传承，又注重 学生的 全面发展。

The CUHK motto “Broadening one’s intellectual horizon and keeping within the bounds of propriety”, which is taken from the Analects of Confucius, gives equal stress to the international and moral aspects of education. I would like to thank you, Sir Alec Broers, vice chancellor, for the invitation, which brings me to the famous Cambridge University. It gives me great pleasure to be together with young friends in a discussion on how mankind should rise up to the challenge in the new century and build a better future.
